Aug 25, 2025: Station master Rainer Weiss passed away on August 25, 2025. A pioneer in the field of gravitational wave astronomy, he became a station master of the LIGO station in 2016 and was awarded the Nobel Prize in physics in 2017. He will be sorely missed.

Oct 3, 2017: LIGO station master Rai Weiss has been awarded the 2017 Nobel prize in physics for his pioneering work in the detection of gravitational waves. Peter Saulson, who shares station master duties with Rai, was one of the LIGO principal researchers whose work contributed to this Nobel prize-winnning achievement. Congratulations to you both!
